Stargate World Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game

Stargate World is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, a newcomer to the gaming industry, developed it. It obtained the license to develop the game based on the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. It will be developed on the back story of Stargate SG-1 and will be available by the last quarter of 2008.

Stargate World will be based on the Stargate SG-1, a long running TV show. The game was initially conceived to run simultaneously with the show. But the show was cancelled and even though the continuity will be carried over on the 2 direct-to-DVD version, the game will be independent of the show.

The game Stargate World will revolve around Milky Way galaxy and the storyline built around the conflict between two fictitious factions, Tau’ri and Goa’uld. There are a number of races involving the Humans, Goa’uld, Jaffa and the Asgard who are involved in the game.

The playable races in Stargate World were initially designed to be played as ‘Race + Class = Character’ format. However, it was later designed where the Jaffa and Humans could play for both sides, the Goa’uld play for the evil and the Asgard for the good side.

The Asgard is a playable race in the Stargate World with only one class. They are the doers of all works and use drones. The Humans will have number of classes like the soldier, Commando, Scientist and Archeologist. The Jaffa will be present as a single class race. The Goa’uld too will also be a single class race. They will have the ability to switch sides for a cost.

The classes in the Stargate World are called archetypes. The game is doing off with the classical Mage-Warrior-Healer model. Now the archetypes will all have the ability to heal with the effectiveness varying from one to another. Specialization within each class and the ability of more than one class to do the same function within each group is supposed to bring about more flexibility in the game.

In Stargate World the archetypes have more flexibility than most other role-playing games. The players can test out the various abilities of their characters as each archetype has three specialization trees to mix and match the abilities.

The developers of the Stargate World are still in the process of finalizing whether a particular style of play which is necessary for the game. Each archetype will have its own starting area and the chance to get accustomed to the game in this area. He will also be briefed about the back story of the 10 seasons of the series.

Expansion packs for the Stargate World have already been planned. It has not been decided how much the expansion packs will cost but it seems that to keeping in tune with normal industry rates, the charges will be kept low while the updates will not be charged.
